Metropolitan Area Oporto, Portugal

In the metropolitan area of Oporto we find several important cities, such as Matosinhos, Vila Novo de Giai and Vila do Conde, all of which are on the coast; and the best beaches of the Costa Verde, perfect for enjoying your holidays. The total population of the metropolitan area in in excess of 170,000 inhabitants.

Beaches, fine food, outdoor activities, cultural visits, historic walking routes- all this in a city with a population of more than one and a half million inhabitants, where tourism is one of the main sources of income, thanks to the wonderful beaches of the Costa Verde.

We begin our journey in Matosinhos, a city in the district of Oporto with a population of close to 30,000 inhabitants, distributed between the urban nucleus and the various suburbs. In Matosinhos it´s worth highlighting the excellent beaches, as well as the shopping centres, which are the best in Oporto.

From Oporto we move on to Vila Nova de Gaia, another zone in the metropolitan area, which has marvellous beaches, and a population of around 10,000 inhabitants. This is one of the most important tourist centres in the Oporto, thanks to the beauty of the town and its beaches.

Another municipality within Oporto is Vila Do Conde, with a population of around 80,000 inhabitants, slightly more than another important municipality in the area, Póvoa de Varzim, which has around 70,000 inhabitants.
